I Would Like to Thank Everyone :)

I haven't posted in a really long time. I'm currently trying to figure out Blogger's new layout. *Le sigh* It hasn't been too user friendly. So I just wanted to make a short post and thank all of my followers! There are some people who are not physically following my blog, but continue to comment and support! Don't forget to follow, guys! I have now reached over 1 million views! Even to those who do not support my blog, thank you! Every single time you come back to belittle my knowledge, make death threats and bash me as a person, you are STILL helping me by bringing my blog up to one of the top Google searches!

💓💓😗😗 BESOS, Y POR FAVOR!

I never imagined my blog would make it this far. I figured close friends and fellow APBT and American Bully fanciers would be the only ones to show love and support. The comments and emails I receive are super amazing and absolutely brighten my day. Even the hateful ones. Only because it reminds me of how much I love myself and my life. It also reminds me how happy I am to not be a miserable, bitter person who brings others down to make myself feel better 😏😉

With that being said, I have 3 posts that will be published as soon as I figure out the glitches and tweak a few things.

Again, thank you guys so much! My ultimate goal was to connect with Bull breed owners, lovers, activists and fanciers. My mission is not completed, but it has definitely started to take off!

Blue Nose and Red Nose Pit Bulls - Which is Better?

Grab a pen and paper! It is about to get real!

Where did the term blue nose and red nose come from?

Old Family Red Nose (OFRN) is a strain off of a bloodline. OFRN Pit Bulls tend to vary in looks depending on the different strains of the original OFRN strain. OFRN was a close knit strain. It was hard to get your hands on unless you were a well known dogman/breeder. The majority of OFRN dogs did not leave the yard they were produced on. If they did, it was to another close friend-dogman.

Being that OFRN was kept in such a small circle, fanciers of the strain would go into dire depths to have one in their yard. This is where backyard breeders started to intervene. They started taking any red dog they could get their hands on and breed the hell out of it. They saw what all backyard breeders see; DOLLAR SIGNS. They could sell an average red Pit Bull for double the price by calling it an OFRN. Eventually, more backyard breeders started to catch on. By having hundreds, even thousands, of red Pit Bulls being labeled with incorrect strains produced, backyard breeders lost all of the history on the dogs. They couldn't even tell you where the strain started. They started using the term we know today as red nose

The truth of the matter is, OFRN is still to this day kept in close circles. A lot of the dogs being called OFRN Pit Bulls are just more uneducated breeders who do not understand the history and the hype OFRN first gained. OFRN dogs have a deep red (almost reddish-brown) nose, nails, and lips. The borderline pink noses, pink lips, and white nails are typically, not always, but typically, another bloodline that has been mislabeled. I see it every day on websites. A lot of breeders claim to know the history of the OFRN strain. The truth is, they haven't been around long enough to understand it.

Now, with this being said, just because your dog is a deep red/brown color, doesn't mean he is a Pit Bull, let alone an OFRN Pit Bull. So, in conclusion, red nose is just another term backyard breeders have made overly hyped. They aren't a special kind of dog. They aren't a completely different breed. They do not have better or worse temperaments. They are simply a red dog with a red nose

Now we can move on to blue nose "Pit Bulls". Blue nose started off much like the red nose did as far as being used by backyard breeders. Backyard breeders saw how much "red nose" dogs went for. Unbeknownst of the OFRN vs red nose history, they decided to start a new hype. Blue nose became very prominent in the 21st century. However, backyard breeders have been producing blue dogs since around the 80s and started to gain minuscule recognition in the 90s.

Blue American Pit Bull Terriers were culled in the beginning stages of the breed's development. To create what backyards breeders call "blue nose Pit Bulls" they had to cross American Staffordshire Terriers as well as other Bull and Mastiff breeds to create them. Blue is a common color with other Molosser breeds, however, it isn't common at all with APBTs. Another breed mixed with Pit Bulls is the Blue Paul Terrier. The breed is now extinct and was short lived. It was originally created to essentially be a blue Pit Bull. Many blue dogs today with Pit Bull lineage who are blue are influenced by the BPT somewhere down its lineage.

After years of breeding blue dogs and calling them purebred Pit Bulls, the term blue nose just seemed to stick around. A lot of people think blue nose is a breed. However, as stated above, many different breeds were mixed into one to create the desired look. Being that all "Pit Bulls" with blue noses were a huge lump of mixed breeds, there is no way it can be considered a breed.

After years of being mislabeled, internet was discovered. Being that more than 2 billion people are active internet users, information was able to spread quickly. Unfortunately by this time, there were more uneducated internet users than educated ones. Day by day, incorrect information was beginning to reach mass numbers of people. Seemingly to say, it became out of control.

Add rescues, shelters, more backyard breeders, uneducated owners, and the government into mix, the backyard breeding terms stayed and the breed's name was ruined.

There you have it. A complex version of how the blue nose and red nose terms were created.

Things Pit Bull Owners Say

HAAAA! Not really! It's what mutt owners say!

This is a real life conversation between a fellow Facebooker and myself. I can't even begin to tell you the uncountable amount of times I shook my head and peed my pants from laughing. I just, I can't! I just can't with these people! The ridiculousness is so ridiculous it's beyond ridiculous!

*Disclaimer* Her grammar was horrid. I cleaned it up a lot.

Me: Blue nose Pit Bulls are not a real thing. It is a BYB term that became overly hyped in the 90's to peddle mutt puppies to make them seem more worthy of the price tag. Not to mention, I would probably beat you upside your head and steal your "blue Pit Blue" seeing as they are extremely rare. You won't find a Pit Bull in a shelter. You definitely won't find a blue Pit Bull in a shelter. That's great of you to rescue Bull breeds though! Keep rescuing and educating yourself as well as others.

Her: What's a BYB? <Yes, that's really all she got out of that paragraph.>

Me: A BYB is abbreviated for backyard breeder.

Her: I rescued my dog from a fighter! He kept his dog at a location different from his home. So he wasn't bred in the backyard. So your point is moot (she actually said; mute). He is a purebread (note the bread) blue nose American Staffordshire Bull Pit Terrier. Pit Bulls are not Bull related, they are Terriers (she actually said terrors). They were a licensed kennel who bred a lot of dogs for bait and Pits (she actually said pitts) to fight. Brush up on your facts before you talk shit or own one! You're only adding to BSL (she actually; breed specified legality)

Me: If your definition of a BYB being that dogs are bred in the backyard, you need to educate yourself before you own any breed of dog. A BYB is one who breeds for no purpose other than to make money. A BYB is one who breeds dogs who have no documented lineage. A BYB is one who breeds mentally unstable dogs. A BYB is one who knows jack shit about the breed they are breeding. A BYB is one who does not perform any advised health tests for the breed in question. A BYB is one who does not prove their dog worthy of breeding.

American Pit Bull Terriers were bred to fight. You don't have to teach them to fight. They are often conditioned to fight, but conditioning to conquer in the pit and training them to fight are nothing of the sorts. It is in their genetic make up to fight! You "rescued" your mutt from what is most likely a USDA licensed breeder who breeds many different breeds. I highly doubt anybody would breed dogs to use them as bait. Not a single notable dog fighter has ever documented using bait dogs. That was a myth meant to scare the uneducated and was started by the ASPCA.

Considering you think Brad and Anjelina had anything to do with creating a dog's life, I just don't know what to tell you! I can't help ya! Considering you think American Staffordshire Pit Terriers are a breed, I just don't know what to tell you! I can't help ya!

If you're interested in learning how to help rid BSL, which stands for Breed Specific Legislation, I'm more than willing to educate you. If you're not, and you're only interested in spewing false information that leads to dogs being killed, I suggest you have a nice day.

Her: You aren't making any sense. What does Brad Pitt and his wife have to do with anything? I reported the fighters and it was investigated. He lost all of his dogs because they were using them to fight. It is something that my town is well known for. My dog has papers from the vet stating he is an American Staffordshire Bull Pit Terrier. So what bitch? Now you're telling me the vet isn't educated? You are the reason we have BSL (she again actually said; breed specified legality). You make people think bad things about our dogs. For the last time, my dog is an American Staffordshire Bull Pit Terrier. My dog is the original breed of Pits (she again actually said; pitts).

Me: There is no such breed as American Staffordshire Bull Pit. There are American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, and Bull Terriers. The only breed of Pit Bull is the Pit Bull. The only original Pit Bull is the Pit Bull. Other breeds were created by the Pit Bull. However, Bulldogs and terriers are what created the Pit Bull. Pit Bulls were bred for dog on dog combat. American Staffordshire Terriers were bred for shows and temperament towards other dogs and animals.

Would you happen to have a citation for an article in which states a dog fighting operation was invaded?

Her: Um, I'm not fighting for gun-control, so your point is moot (she again actually said; mute). I'm fighting for BSL (pretty sure she meant against)! Pit Bull is not a breed. It never was a breed. It was only used as a blanket term to group together dogs. YOU KNOW! LIKE LABS! It is so crazy that you think Pit Bulls were bred to fight. They were bred for hunting and farm work. After a few years of breeding they became protectors of small children. Like I said before, brush up on your facts because you talk shit! AND NO! The news didn't report on the bust.

Me: Labs are a recognized breed. Lab is short for Labrador Retriever, just as Pit Bull is short for American Pit Bull Terrier. American Pit Bull Terriers have been an established breed for well over a century. We're talking, a century and a half here. Retriever would be the group Labs are classified as. Just as Pit Bulls are classified as Terriers or one of the Bull breeds. It is the government who enacted the law in which a medium sized dog with a short coat and square head is classified as a Pit Bull. The government isn't savvy in dog breeds. It is people like you who chose to be sheep and follow this ridiculous propaganda.

I also find it highly unlikely there was absolutely no media coverage on a dog fighting operation bust. It would be public knowledge. I am pretty up to date with all DF sting operations. So why lie? Just admit you have made a mistake in the past by buying, not rescuing, not adopting, but buying a mutt from a backyard breeding, puppy mill who just so happened to licensed with the USDA?

Her: OMFG bitch! What does it matter? There is a lot of shit that doesn't get covered int he fucking news. JFC you are so immature. My dog is a fucking bluenose Pit (two t's). My dad bred them since I was a fucking baby. I would have to be really fucking stupid if I didn't know what a Pit Bull was. Nobody fucking cares what you think you know bitch! Bluenose gator mouth Pits (two t's) is what my dad bred since I was born. My dad fucking died. So now you're talking shit about my dad bitch. I don't fucking take that shit lightly bitch.

Me: Well, this is where I end this conversation. I only speak with people who have social skills and a basic education. Verbal abuse and expletives will only get you so far in life. Not to mention, you're not helping out any of the dogs who are victims of BSL by your logic and lack of knowledge. I hope and pray your dog never becomes a victim of BSL or another statistic. You're not stupid. The word stupid was not mentioned a single time during our conversation. You are a blind, uneducated sheep following and spewing ignorance.

Before I end this completely, you are young. The age your dad first started breeding mutts was around the time when American Bullies were being created. So no, you're not stupid for not knowing what a Pit Bull is, you've just never properly been educated. I'm also pretty sure your dad was never mentioned by me. I really have no idea how your thought process works. I really don't. SMH! The day your life is disrupted by BSL, you can look back on this conversation and pray it isn't too late to make a change.

Have a nice day.

Her: BYE YOU STUPID FUCKING DUMB CUNT BITCH! IGNORANT ASS BITCH! STUPID ASS BITCH! LYING ASS BITCH! NOT KNOWING WHAT A PIT BULL IS ASS BITCH!
SCARY ASS FUCKING CUNT! BET YOU WOULDN'T SAY THAT SHIT TO MY FACE LOOKING ASS BITCH! GO DIE BITCH! DIE! DIE! DIE!

Mhm. You guessed it! She blocked me after sending me that heartfelt, inspirational message. I can honestly say, I have never had somebody care so much to be that honest with me. That was from the heart *tears*.

Girl BYE! I just can't deal with the ignorance. No, I didn't call the little bitch stupid, but Jesus H, she was a fucking idiot!

SHEEPLE! Wake the fuck up! When somebody is wasting their breath, finger strength, or time on you, fucking take that shit and run with it. If you truly love what you think is a Pit Bull, then fucking learn how to rid BSL from all neighborhoods, towns, cities, counties, states, and countries! Wake the fuck up folks! This shit is getting worse by the fucking day!

Grain Allergies in Pit Bulls

GAHHHH! Go to the vet!!!

Pit Bulls are not known for grain allergies! Mutts who are mislabeled as Pit Bulls are known for grain allergies! Bull breeds in general are known for grain allergies. However, grain allergies aren't just limited to Bull breeds. All breeds can be prone to grain allergies.

If you own a dog, no matter the breed, STOP ASKING THE INTERNET FOR MEDICAL ADVICE! I literally see a picture on Facebook 10 times a day with dogs, especially puppies, who have a rash on the underside of their belly. What do the owners do? They go straight to Facebook to ask what it is. Why? Why can't you just take your dog to the vet if you're worried enough to ask? I highly doubt you will find a single vet on a group intended for selling dogs. It just won't happen. Of course you will have the large number of "veterinary assistants" who will pop up with their two cents. That doesn't necessarily mean they know what the hell they're talking about.

I see these pictures nearly 70 times a week. Out of the 70 times I see this weekly, everyone has nearly 100 different answers. "Oh, it's a rash, I'm vet assistant." "My dog had that too, it's canine herpes." AHHHH MUH GAWWWWWDUH! It gets so annoying. Out of 20 thousand PLUS members, you're telling me you haven't seen this this question asked 7,849 times before you you have decided to ask?!?!

If you don't know for sure what is medically wrong with your dog, take it to the vet. If you can't afford to take your dog to the vet, you need to reevaluate being responsible for another living, breathing being. The "rash" on your dog's belly can be a multitude of things to include but not limited to;

  • Mange
  • Food allergies
  • Seasonal allergies
  • Dirty living environments
  • Urine
  • Feces
  • Fleas
  • Ringworm
  • Grooming products
  • Stress
  • Seasonal changes (extreme moist or dry weather)
  • Metabolic issues
  • Hormonal issues
  • Underlying skin disease
  • Reaction to household cleaning supplies
  • Lime disease
The list goes on. and on. and on. and on. and on. and on. So, next time, go directly to your vet. Nobody on Facebook can virtually reach through the computer/phone/tablet and scrape your dog's skin to test it. YES! You need a skin scrape performed to test it out!

Part of owning an animal is being educated enough to know when to take it in to be evaluated by a professional. Everybody comes up on hard times. I understand that. Nobody is discrediting you of the love you have for your animal. Just as children, dogs did not choose to live with you. Of course humans come before dogs, but if you are willing to take your human child to the ER for every little cough, you should be willing to take your animal to the vet every time it has a potentially life-threatening disease.

Next time you see an owner asking for medical advice on the internet, be sure to throw out all of different issues it could be. Advocate for responsible ownership!

How to Help Advocate for Pit Bulls - The Right Way

Learn the facts, not the hype!

I have basically said everything I will say all throughout this blog in this one post. It's a simple breakdown for anyone who truly wants to advocate for the Bull breeds in a nutshell.

  • Stop calling everything with four legs and short hair a Pit Bull. Pit Bull is a breed. It isn't a type of dog. It isn't a classification of dog. If a dog does not have a documented lineage, it is a mongrel. A nicer word for mongrel is mutt. Mutt is not a bad word. It simply means a dog of unknown breed origins due to lacking the proper documentation of lineage.
  • Stop spewing temperament is about how dogs are raised and trained. Temperament is determined by a dog's genetics. If the dog has ancestors who were dog aggressive, they will be at greater risk than not to be dog aggressive. There is absolutely no way you can train genetics out of any living, breathing being.
  • Stop spewing every Bull breed who ends up in a shelter was a victim of fighting or being a bait dog. Bait dog was a myth started by the ASPCA and government to scare people into making sure their dogs were not bred or re-homed so they have less of an issue to deal with. Since they have started this, underground, unorganized dog fighters have since grown fond of this idea. Once we stop putting this myth into people's heads, they will no longer do it. Just because a dog has scars does not mean it was fought in a pit or used as bait for practice. Dogs fight, regardless of breed.
  • Educate people about proper confinement. The majority of dog attacks were due to lack of confinement by the owner. Push for stricter leash laws. Don't just sit in the back waiting for it to happen. Be the first in line to tell the government what YOU want to be done.
  • Educate people on the importance of kid to dog interaction. I've said this soooo many times. Nobody who is a victim of a dog attack is going to say; "Well, my two year old was on the couch with the dog and kept hitting him in the face with the remote. The dog in turn growled at him to warn him. I got pissed off at the dog for growling and beat him with a broomstick. While I was beating him, I also cornered him which in turn put him into his natural defense mode to fight off predators. He eventually bit me. My two year old was scared and tried to break the fight. In the process, the dog felt even more intimidated so he started to attack my two year old as well. The other dogs in the house just followed their natural prey-drive instincts and joined in on the action. So, that's why they are bad dogs and need to be categorized as 1,238 pound Pit Bulls who should face euthanasia." NO! It doesn't happen like that. People will always say a story about how amazing the dog always was with children and strangers. The story will continue with the dog sleeping and just waking up and "snapping". People aren't going to admit when they have abused an animal. Am I saying all attacks are brought on due to the human? No. I strongly believe faulty genetics due to backyard breeding play a huge role in attacks. However, not every single freaking dog has faulty genetics.
  • Educate people on the importance of buying from reputable breeders or adopting from a shelter. There is nothing wrong with breeding responsibly. The problem is backyard breeders who breed any two dogs together to make a quick buck.
  • Educate people on the importance of spaying and neutering mutts. Not everyone will agree with spay and neuter, but if you can't be a responsible pet owner, then it needs to be done. If you as an owner can not guarantee you will never have an "oops" litter, get them fixed!!!
  • Educate with facts. Pit Bulls were never nanny dogs. No breed of dog has ever been or will ever be a nanny dog. Dogs cannot cook, clean, change diapers or bathe a kid. Therefore, they are not nannies. If one were to ever be dumb enough to leave their dog to watch their children, they're just, dumb! Pit Bulls were bred for dog on dog combat. They weren't bred to look after farms. They weren't bred to fight bulls. The breed was created when bull baiting became illegal. They decided to pit dogs against one another instead. The Bulldogs were good, but they weren't quick enough. They started to mix them with a Terrier; the White Terrier. The White Terrier is now an extinct breed.
  • Pit Bulls are inherently dog aggressive. There is no way you can train that out of them. Bull breeds in general are inherently dog aggressive. However, they are NOT inherently human aggressive. They have a will to live and are extremely eager to please their handlers. If a dog was human aggressive, it was culled. If it wasn't culled, it wouldn't be used to reproduce.
  • Pit Bull is not a blanket term. The government used this as a cop out so their jobs would be easier. It's much easier to classify any dog with short fur, four legs, and two eyes as one breed than it is to break down individual dog related fatalities. You have Terriers, Shepherds, Bull breeds, Mastiffs, Molosser breeds, Retrievers and the list goes on. Pit Bulls are considered as Terriers and Bull breeds. There is no reason a Retriever mix should be considered a Pit Bull. Pit Bull is a breed. We don't go around calling a Jack Russell Terrier a Chihuahua. Why? Well, for starters, it's a Jack Russell Terrier. Not to mention, a Chihuahua is it's own breed. Just as the JRT is it's own breed. They can be classified as Terriers, but you wouldn't classify them as a whole different breed in general.
  • Educate people on the breed standard. Pit Bulls are not 80 pound, blue hippos. They are lean, yet muscular. Blue is not a common color in the APBT. I have yet to ever see a Pit Bull who was not mixed with another breed. Some breeds just don't come in certain colors. Pit Bulls are one of them.
  • American Staffordshire Terriers and Bull Staffordshire Terriers are not Pit Bulls. The American Staffordshire Terrier originated from the APBT. However, over years of breeding to a new standard and adding in other breeds, it is no longer a Pit Bull. The American Staffordshire Terrier never created the Pit Bull. The name was changed as well as the standard to stem away from the Pit Bull's fighting stigma. The nanny myth was attached to the Stafforshire Bull Terrier as a way to steer away from the history of England's pit dog.
  • Stop being ARA (Animal Rights Activist) nuts. It's okay to fight for the rights of animals. However, it goes too far when a dog mauls a child to death and you're fighting to keep the dog alive. THE DOG IS UNSTABLE! Every dog the ARA have kept alive will live the rest of their lives in a small 10x10 living space. That's no way to live. Let us also add, any dog who has been saved from "doggy death row" for mauling somebody to death has shown more times than not, the same aggression repeatedly to the workers who care for them.
  • If you own Bull breeds yourself, never put your guard down when it comes to other animals. Bull breeds were bred for their aggression. Not every dog of the Bull breed will be aggressive, but it's is a huge probability it will be at one point or another. Do not re-home a dog due to it's aggression towards other animals. As an owner and advocate, it is up to you to manage it. If you are not willing to put forth the effort with an aggressive dog, Bull breeds are in no way, shape, or form the breed for you.
  • Never stop learning. I have years of experience and knowledge under my belt and I still learn new things. Sometimes I learn them daily, weekly, and monthly. All breeds,  Pit Bulls especially, will never have an expert. Not a single knowledgeable person will ever be annoyed when it comes to somebody wanting to learn. You do not have to be scared to ask for help, advice, or information when it comes to Pit Bull owners and enthusiast.
  • Lastly, never give up! I want to give up on a daily basis due to the utter lack of knowledge and extreme amount of ignorance I see with this breed. I can honestly say, I have been able to change thousands of views on Pit Bulls with facts, rather than opinions or myths. Some people will be interested in learning whereas others will be stuck in their on world based on lies and misconceptions.
Can you identify the Pit Bull in the next blog post?

Is a Pit Bull the Right Breed for Me?

Research! Once you do, you will just know.

I see so many people ask: "What breed should I start breeding?" "What breed would be best for my family?" "What "type" of Pit Bull would be best for my family?"

Obviously these aren't quotes from everyone, but they are in fact questions I've seen asked at least once. The question shouldn't be "Is a Pit Bull right for me?", but rather "Based of off (insert five facts of yourself or family here), which breed would best suit my lifestyle?"

For starters, there aren't any different types of Pit Bulls. The American Pit Bull Terrier is the only Pit Bull. Therefore, making it the only type of Pit Bull.

All dogs are different. Just because you had a Bull breed type dog who never barked, was a couch potato, great with kids, loved attention, wasn't destructive etc. doesn't mean it was because he was a Bull breed type dog. Dogs are like any other animal. Of course there will be always be characteristics to every breed you should be aware of, but it doesn't mean every dog will follow those characteristics to a T.

APBTs, as well as all Bull breeds, are known for their animal aggression. If this is something you personally do not find appealing, then APBTs and other Bull breeds are not the type of dog for you. If you are responsible and you understand AA (animal aggression) is a possibility throughout a particular breed, you may proceed into doing more research.

You should understand that no other dog is like that of the APBT. They weren't called the Gladiator of all dogs for no reason. They can and will do great damage given the opportunity. You must understand genetics cannot be trained out of any living being. Temperament is genetic. It is no educated guess or an inconclusive study. It has been proven time and time again that environment plays very little part into a dog's temperament. Just because a puppy or adult doesn't show signs of AA doesn't mean it never will. After all, they are dogs.

Researching a breed before you buy doesn't just pertain to Pit Bulls. You should research any breed you plan on buying or even adopting. Ignorance of breed characteristics is the number one reason animals end up in shelters or re-homed. Herding breeds will want to herd. Will all of them want to? No. Those are dogs that lack their breed's characteristic drive. If you have a herding dog who is stuck in a house all day. The dog will most likely go absolutely nuts. They were bred for a job. Their instincts tell them they need to complete the job. However, with no other animals to tend to, a herding dog will just be an unhappy couch ornament.

I've seen people post on all various forms of social media asking for help to find their lost working breed. What typically happened is, the dog had pent up energy. The dog needed to do what it was bred to do. Once the dog runs outside to go "potty", there will be no stopping it. No command will bring this dog back. The owners just hope and pray somebody is able to get a hold of the dog before it gets injured or killed while it is on it's own. This would be an example of owning a breed without researching it. If the owners would have done their research, they would understand these are high-energy dogs who were bred for a purpose. That purpose wasn't sitting in the house all day.

The majority of dogs end up in shelters because owners do not research not only the breed, but dog's needs in general before they buy. They aren't a house you're renting. They aren't a car you're leasing. You cannot go out and rent another dog like you can a house. You cannot go out and trade in your dog like you can a car.

Just like every commitment in life, there will be ups and downs. You need all new tires on your vehicle. Shit! It sucks, but you're going to figure out a way to come up with the money needed to fix the problem. Are you not? You will! Your dog comes down with severe hip and elbow dysplasia. Shit! It sucks, for the dog! This time you don't feel coming up with the money is a priority. So what do you do? You surrender them to a shelter or rescue where they are now forced to provide treatment or euthanize the dog.

This also could have been avoided had you researched the breed. Certain breeds are more prone to certain health issues than others. If you buy a breed who is prone to hip or elbow dysplasia, it is up to you to know this. The dog undergoing euthanasia in that high kill shelter you surrendered him to could have been taken care of by another buyer who knows this is a possibility.

Basically, if you have to ask if a certain breed of dog is a right fit for you or your family, you need to do more research.

You do not need to be completely savvy when it comes to the breed. You should however, have a basic understanding and knowledge of that particular breed as well as dogs in general. You should start by asking yourself, "What's my activity level like?". If you're a homebody and don't do much exercise, start by finding breeds with extremely low energy and little to no drive. If you're an upbeat person who is always out and about looking for the next adventure; exercise, running, hiking etc. search for higher energy breeds.

Once you have narrowed down characteristics of all of the different dog breeds, start going to dog shows in your area. If you cannot travel to dogs shows in your area, look for reputable breeders online. You can join Facebook groups or different boards throughout the internet to find knowledgeable breeders and owners. Pick their brains. Search for specific threads that answer questions you may have been questioning yourself.

Buying a dog shouldn't be a quick, hasty decision. Don't go out and get the first puppy you see because you promised your kids one. If you're adopting from a shelter or rescue, see if you can do a trial adoption. Most shelters and rescues give you the opportunity to see if the dog will work well with other dogs, cats, animals, adjust to your lifestyle and adjust to your family. They typically last 3-7 days. Some shelters allow up to a month in certain cases where a dog has been returned at least once after a trial adoption.

Research, guidance, and knowledge are what fuels our world. This shouldn't be limited to just jobs and careers. Knowledge runs every aspect of any situation you may have to deal with in life. Dogs are one of them. Animals in general are one them.

Do your research! Ask around! Don't be afraid to ask random strangers who are walking their dog in public questions you have been yearning to know. Be vocal. Be understanding. Most of all, be patient. This isn't an overnight process. This is a lifetime commitment.

I hope this has helped you to know and understand why picking a dog who best suits your lifestyle and family based off of your needs is so important.
