We Need to Put a Stop to Breeding

Breeding really should be banned, if they're not breeding with ethics.

Purebred dogs with papers can end up in shelters. Just because a dog has papers doesn't mean it was bred by a reputable breeder who follows breeding ethics set by reputable registries. 

We shouldn't ban breeding all together, we need to ban breeding mutts. There is not a single reason as to why mutts should reproduce. Reputable breeders do not breed mutts.

How do you know if a breeder is reputable?

First things first they're the realesttt. No, really though, they are the only ones who should be breeding. The REAL first thing first is, do they have papers from a reputable dog registry? If the answer is "No", walk away. If they DO in fact have papers from a reputable registry, you may proceed......... With caution!

Have they used any labels that would be considered a back yard breeder term? 

Examples of a back yard breeder term who claims to have "Pit Bulls" are of the following:

Bluenose, Rednose, Gatormouth, Gotti, Razer Edge, XL Pit Bull, XXL Pit Bull, Block Head etc. (These are the most common I have seen and heard)

First of all, if a breeder claims to have a Pit Bull or Pit Bull puppies for sale, they are not Pit Bulls if they have used any of the aforementioned bloodlines or "types".

A breeder of Pit Bulls know the only type of Pit Bull is a Pit Bull. I have recited this many times throughout this blog. The American Pit Bull Terrier is the only Pit Bull. Therefore, a Pit Bull is the only type of Pit Bull. Just as the Jack Russell Terrier is the only Jack Russell. They can both be classified as Terriers, but no other breeds can be called Pit Bulls or Jack Russells.

Basically, if a breeder is calling a dog something of ignorance (lack of knowledge), do not continue any further with said breeder. 

On to temperament...

A dog evolves into their temperament. The majority of puppies are energetic, happy, playful, loving etc. However, all human babies cry when they're hungry. As adults, they no longer cry. They become evil. At least I do. BASICALLY I am trying to tell you, a reputable breeder will wait until the dog is an adult to breed. Human brains do not stop developing until the age of 25. Dogs are not mentally or physically matured until 2 to 3 years of age. An owner (especially a breeder) will notice once a dog has become fully matured based off of it's actions. 

If you breed a male at 8 months of age, they can prove to be unstable later on in life. Temperament is another genetic trait passed down into future generations. Shyness, aggressiveness, fearfulness, dog aggression etc. can not be nurtured out of a dog. If a dog was never dog aggressive until it turned 2 or 3, it is because it has now fully matured into the dog it was always meant to be. Dog aggression will always be okay within some breeds. Just as animal aggression in general will always be an acceptable trait. Human aggression however, is NOT okay. If a dog is aggressive towards humans, first you need to try and give it a soft cull (spay or neuter). If the soft cull has no effect on the dog's aggressiveness, it needs to be put to sleep.

With that being said, waiting until the dog is age appropriate is crucial when it comes to temperament. A dog should be temperament tested by a certified dog trainer who will give unbiased results. If in doubt, ask for the trainer's name and contact information. You should then research the trainer. By breeding a dog who isn't at full maturity can be dangerous, especially depending on the breed. 

On to health....

No dog alive should be bred until it is at least 2 years of age. I'm sure you're asking why I have came up with that loony idea. Well, it really isn't a loony idea, it is again, science. Orthopedic Foundation for Animals or OFA, is a MUST when it comes to responsible breeding. All breeds are predisposed to different health problems. Large to giant breeds, especially German Shepherds, are known for having hip-dysplasia. By having a dog tested through OFA, it cannot promise the dog does not carry the genetic trait. However. it can give you an idea of the likeliness of said dog developing the genetic trait later on in life. If said dog's chances of developing any type of dysplasia is relevant, it shouldn't be bred. 

You can go directly to CLICK HERE DAMMIT  to check on a certain breed and see what their statistics are. Ask the breeder for proof of OFA testings. If the breeder is not willing to show you, it is time to walk away. You should not be spending money on a new dog or puppy for it to cost you thousands in healthcare when it was completely unavoidable. If I know a breeder does not OFA test, I know I will not use that breeder.

On to conformation...

Are you buying a puppy because you want it to look a certain way? Just because a dog doesn't look identical to the ones you searched on google doesn't mean it is mixed with something. It doesn't? Uh.... Nooo. A dog can be 10000000000% purebred and not fit breed standards. However, a reputable breeder will not breed a dog if it does not meet the breed's conformation and temperament standards.

Ask to see the dam (puppy's mom) in person. If a breeder is not willing to let you come to their house, they need to at least be willing to show you videos. Some people are sketchy, so I do not hold a breeder a fault for not disclosing their location. Take a good look at the dam. Does she physically meet breed standards? If she does, move on to the sire (puppy's dad). Some breeders will use a stud which belongs to another person. However, reputable breeders will use a stud that also meets breed standards. If the sire also fits breed standards, you may continue.

If either the dam or sire do not meet breed standards, do not buy a puppy from them. Just because the sire and dam meet breed standards does not mean all puppies from the litter will meet the standard. However, you have a better chance of your puppy being your dream "google image" with both parents being conformationally correct.

Moving on to reasoning... 

Why does the breeder breed? Do they think their dog is pretty? Do they like puppy breath? Do they just like the breed? If that is their only answer, walk away.

A reputable breeder will ONLY breed for a purpose. There are MANY different purposes for breeding dogs. However, if the main purpose isn't to better the breed, walk away. A reputable breeder will only breed dogs who fit conformation standards, temperament standards, health standards, etc. Whether the purpose of their breeding be for show or work, they will always need a reason behind it. That reason should be to better the breed. 

If you breed mutts, you cannot better any breeds. You can only better pure breeds. There is literally no conformation a mutt should follow. Therefore, mutts should not be bred. Breeding mutts literally kills dogs world wide. Chances of a back yard breeder's dog ending up in a shelter is statistically higher than that of a reputable breeder. 

How many litters does the breeder have annually?

If a breeder has one stud to 10 females, there should be major red flags. If a breeder is using their dog's to pay bills, walk away. Reputable breeders can put upward 10 thousand dollars into one litter. This can be between healthcare, food, shots, appointments, stud fees, testings, shows, training etc. A breeder will usually shoot for recouping the amount of money they have spent to care for the litter. If a breeder is selling a puppy for 2500 dollars because they spent 2500 dollars on the dam or sire, walk away. Breeding shouldn't be considered a job, but rather a hobby.

If a breeder has 5, 6, 7, 11, 15 litters a year, you should look elsewhere. Back yard breeders see their dogs as cash cows. If a breeder has 2 litters in the same year with the same female, look elsewhere. Again, the dog is being seen as a cash cow. It is detrimental to the dam's health if she is being bred back to back.

Overall, a lot more goes into breeding than just somebody who likes puppies. Of course you should look for a breeder who loves and cares for their dogs. However, loving and caring for a dog does not make a breeder. A lot of time, money, and research goes into being a reputable breeder. Not every person will have what it takes to be a good breeder.

We need to fight to put an end to back yard breeding. Shelters are not overrun with reputable breeders productions. Shelters are overrun with unwanted mutts who were sadly produced by back yard breeders. An accidental breeding makes one a back yard breeder as well.

Stay away from pet stores! Pet stores are nothing more than puppy peddlers who buy out a whole litter from puppy mills and commercial breeders. Stick with a breeder who breeds one breed. Breeding is literally a full-time hobby. Breeders learn something new every day. A good breeder will stick to one, maybe two, breeds. Not all breeds are the same. Breeders cannot know the main things to know about 10 different breeds. Not to mention, it is typically illegal to own more than 4 domesticated animals in one household unless they're under the age of 6 months. 

Do your research before purchasing a puppy. If you are not willing to put in the research to find a reputable breeder, adopt a deserving dog or puppy from your local shelter or a rescue. Purchasing puppies from back yard breeders will give them more momentum to continue to destroy breeds.

Proof is in the Pudding; Mislabeling Kills Innocent Dogs

STOP FUELING BSL, BULL BREED OWNERS!

Here is an example of how a Boxer mix can become the victim of BSL. This dog is in no way, shape, or form an American Pit Bull Terrier. Remember guys, APBT is the only breed that is not only called, but recognized as a Pit Bull. Bull breed mixes/mutts, mixed breeds/mutts, Terrier mixes/mutts etc. should never be called a Pit Bull. THIS SHOULD BE A WAKE UP CALL TO EVERYBODY WHO INSISTS ON USING PIT BULL AS A BLANKET TERM. Because this dog has a couple of characteristics of what the government thinks a Pit Bull is, he may very well lose his life TONIGHT!

This is why it is important to educate yourselves so you can educate others. No medium to large size dog or puppy is safe from being discriminated against. This was taken from a group called "Guess the Dog Breed". The owner's friend was trying to find a way to prove the dog is not a Pit Bull. She was not asking what the breed of dog it is because it is unknown, she was looking for proof to help her friend get her dog back. 

Hopefully I can make an update at a later date and happily report the puppy is safe at home where he belongs. 

Just a reminder, this can very well happen to your dog or puppy. Just because your dog ISN'T  a Pit Bull doesn't mean it doesn't share characteristics. A dog only needs to share a few characteristics with that of a Pit Bull to be a victim of BSL. We cannot stop this from happening until we educate ourselves first. Without the knowledge, we will always be sheep. If more people were willing to learn about the breed they may or may not own, we could help all families from having their beloved pet put to sleep.

Giving Up on "Pit Bulls"

The thought is always going to be there.

Some days I just want to give up on advocating for the Bull breeds that are mislabeled as Pit Bulls. Take what was supposed to be an eye opening reality turned into an argument last night. I was in a group that is supposed to be "helping" to ban fighting and animal cruelty. Well, for starters, dog fighting is illegal in the United States, therefore, it IS banned. Animal cruelty is also illegal in the United States, therefore, it is ALSO banned. So the title of the page is just all wrong to begin with. Maybe "Help Put a Stop to Fighting and Animal Cruelty" would better fit. However, I'm not here to talk about the name of the group. 

How as advocates of animal welfare rights are you not willing to educate yourselves? This was the number one issue with APBT fanciers in the group. People were posting pictures of bulky dogs claiming they're Pit Bulls and blah blah blah. When fanciers tried to educate them, they were immediately banned from the group. 

I have a calm approach to education whereas most educators jump down throats. I simply typed a post stating how mislabeling dogs is animal cruelty in my eyes. Why? For starters, some shelters will euthanize any dog that can be labeled as a Pit Bull. By mislabeling dogs as Pit Bulls, you have just given that dog a death wish. How is that not animal cruelty? We are killing dogs because a POS human mislabeled it! How are you going to fight for a breed that isn't even the breed in question? We should be fighting for ALL breeds that are being mislabeled. 

My education and facts turned into an argument because apparently Dobermans, Rottweilers, Mastiffs, German Shepherds, Chows, etc.  are making their way on the news every day for mauling or killing children and adults. Pit Bulls are the most commonly mislabeled and misidentified breed. Everything I said was being twisted around and my words were being used against me. I personally have never seen a dog fighting organization with Dobermans pop up on the news. Apparently, based off of her facts, other breeds described as aggressive are fought just as much, if not MORE, than Pit Bulls and dogs mislabeled as Pit Bulls. 0.o Bitch what? 

Her invalid argument stated by calling them Bull breed mixes would just put a ban on Bull breeds in general. Well, um, hello!?!? Bull breed mixes and mutts are already being banned because that is what society thinks a Pit Bull is. 

Her little admin friend was attempting to back her up with more false information. I learned yesterday it is a PROVEN fact that when you breed two aggressive dogs together, only ONE puppy out of the whole litter will come out to be aggressive. 0.o Bitch what? Where the hell was I at when this fact was PROVEN (yes she yelled proven at me every time)? I just sat there and stared at my computer screen. I didn't know what to say because that has got to be one of the stupidest things I have ever heard somebody say in all of my time fighting for this breed. 

We live in a democracy! Why are we just lying on our backs and letting the government tell us what we can and cannot own? We can't bring knives to a gun fight. Opinions are knives, facts are guns! By stating it is all in how an owner raises a dog is a fucking opinion. It is an opinion that has been debunked thousands upon thousands of times. Amazing owners have dogs who attack. Shitty owners have dogs who would never even so much as growl. It isn't all in how a dog is raised or treated. Refer back to my first blog post and see my comparison. 

The lady and her admin friend both stated it is okay to classify dogs as Pit Bulls because society will always think they are. WHAT IN THE HOLY APPLE BALLS?!?! We are supposed to be fighting to stop dogs from being mislabeled as vicious. So why are you seriously okay with a dog's breed being mislabeled? It makes absolutely zero sense whatsoever. 

I honestly almost gave up on Pit Bulls last night. I kept relaying what they had said. If you are against breed bans, why wouldn't you try anything and everything to stop them? I felt as though my knowledge wouldn't make a difference if that's how other BBM's owners felt. 

By letting the government know they were WRONG for mislabeling dogs and categorizing more than a dozen breeds as one breed, we could help show the government it is the dog itself and not the breed of dog. That is how we can help by properly labeling. If we bring FACTS to the government to prove they have been DEAD WRONG for all of these years about what a Pit Bull is, it would only further prove we need to blame the dog as one rather than the breed as a whole. 

Once we win the fight to rid BSL, we can come together and eventually win the fight for stricter breeding laws. We can fight the UKC, ADBA, ABKC, AKC, CKC, the crappy CKC, APBR etc. to only register a litter of puppies if they have proof of OFA testings as well as documentation from the state stating the dog has passed all forms of temperament testing. We can fight for country wide laws on the spay and neuter of any dog (even cats) that will not be used for show, breeding, or working purposes. They will obviously need to be provided with proof of papers with the dog's registry as well as be able to be given a certain license allowing this. This will help tremendously on accidental litters as well as the over population of dogs in shelters. 

We can fight for mandatory laws that require all breeders to microchip their dogs and puppies. Let the breeders be the responsible ones to register the dog or puppy with the new owner's information on the microchip. Stricter laws mean less abandoned dogs and puppies.

We can help fight stricter laws for shelters. Use some of the billions of dollars Americans pay in taxes each year to provide proper vet care for all shelters run by the county. No shelter dog should leave the shelter until it has been spayed or neutered. 

The small differences we can make will help with unwanted dogs and puppies in shelters. Of course purebred dogs and puppies can end up in shelters. However, as you should know by now, without proof of papers and lineage, a dog is a mutt. 

If we don't at least try and fight, nothing will change. Gay and Lesbians couples can now legally be married and receive the same benefits just as a traditional couple would. It took decades of fighting for those rights. So why should we be discouraged after our first no? We keep at it until we hear a yes!

Fighting for anything takes time. Not once did I say this would happen overnight. However, again, for the millionth time saying it, we will never know if we don't try.

Now, I know some people are against S/N of their pets because studies have went back and forth showing benefits as well as risks. However, wouldn't you be willing to do anything to keep your dog? If S/N a mutt was the only thing I had to sacrifice to stop BSL, I would grab those scissors in a heartbeat. 

As of now, I feel my head is back on straight and I am still willing to continue to educate. I just ask that all of you do the same. 

Purebred VS Well Bred

What standards are you going by?

  I had this absolutely amazing blog post about purebred versus well bred until Blogger decided to be an ass-wipe and got things switched around. *le sigh*

  As the title suggests, I will be babbling on about dogs being Purebred versus them being       bred well. Without any further ado, let us get on with the shit storms.

  What is the definition of purebred?

a purebred animal, especially one of registered pedigree.

As you can see, purebred doesn't mention anything about looks. Why? Well, for starters, google doesn't really give good information on breeds. Random people go and troll on the internet without even knowing they're trolling and state their opinions rather than facts. 

There are different styles of dogs within every breed. There are dogs that are bred for conformation and dogs that are bred as working dogs. A dog bred for conformation is commonly referred to as being of "show quality". Dogs that are bred for work are not bred  based on looks. For an example, the American Pit Bull Terrier was originally bred for dog on dog combat. Looks was the furthest thing from breeders minds back in the beginning stages of the breed. 

Dogs bred for working purposes will often stray from kennel registries standards. That doesn't mean they are not well bred, however. A train-wreck is a dog that is not well bred. A train-wreck would be considered a dog that dog not follow conformation standards as well as has physical attributes that impose on their working abilities. Again, let us talk about the American Pit Bull Terrier.

This guy here is well bred. He is a show quality Pit Bull and more likely than not has a high prey drive (assuming from the picture) and would excel in physical work. Therefore, making this an all around well bred APBT.

This guy here is from the OFRD "working line". If you look closely, you can see his body isn't the prettiest of builds compared to the previous dog. However, even with a wide-set chest, he can do the job he was bred to do. Whether that job be fighting, weight-pulling, hunting, etc. Even though he isn't "pretty" bred, he is still working quality well bred. Mind you, a lot of fanciers do not like OFRD because they were believed to only be bred for looks. The APBT was bred for their ability. Looks were the last thing on breeder's mind.

Just as the previous dog, he may not be the prettiest, but he was bred for work and not looks.

Now we can move on to the American Bully because, well, I'm sure everyone agrees those are some of the worst bred dogs being bred today. First I would like to show the breed standards of that of the American Bully so you can refer back to them as you see fit. 

If you're here, reading this, right now, I'm sure you've heard of the Hulk. 

As you can see, he has an incredibly high rear. It is acceptable for XL Bullies to have a slight high rear, but not a rear that is higher than their damn head. He also has excess wrinkled on his face. Although they don't impede with his physical abilities, they are still undesirable as a show standard.

This here is again, a picture of Hulk's litter mate. She has a high rear, shallow chest, most likely weak rear, an under-bite, and a weak jaw.

This and the previous picture are both two of Hulk's sons. As you can see, they both have EXTREMELY high rears like their father, yet are no where near the same size as Hulk while he was this age.

This is Hulk's brother. Again, you can see these genetics are inconsistent. This dog looks like a Boxer. He doesn't even look like a Boxer mix, but rather a purebred Boxer.

Here is one of Hulk's daughters. Again, notice the extremely narrow chest as well as those feet. DO YOU SEE THOSE FEET? They look painful. The point being, notice the inconsistency within these generations of the SAME family.

Here is Hulk's sister. They were not born in the same litter, however, it was a repeat breeding. Meaning, the sire and dam were both bred again. Most likely in hopes to create another Hulk. As you can see, she holds nowhere the same mass as Hulk.

This would be considered a classic American Bully. Unfortunately I was unable to find a good representation of the XL class. She is however, the perfect representation of a classic. All 

Bullies should look like her structure. They should only vary in height and weight. 

This is an APBT (not American Bully), He is OFRD and has both show quality confirmation and working bred. As an owner, you could both show him and work him. 

This is the same dog as the one above. I just had to show how handsome he was again.

A well bred dog who is bred for show conformation will also have consistency. Hulk, his offspring, his parents, and his litter mates have no consistency. It is also obvious with their high rear it would impede their working abilities as it would be difficult for fast movements. Unfortunately, their excess wrinkles, high rear, and occasional underbite are the only consistencies within their pedigree.

We can now move on to the Exotic Bullies (which really shouldn't be called Bullies). There are three main dogs that exotic breeders want in their pedigree. They are DAX (Who died of overheating during a breeding... at only 6 years of age), Miagi, and Bullseye. There are others like Bolow, G2, Marcello, Primo.. the list goes on. However, the majority of the others are just offspring produced by the first three.

This is DAX. As you can see, he has a high rear and from the side shot doesn't fit any of the standards set by ABKC. He would be considered an all the way around poorly bred dog. He cannot do any type of work due his muzzle interfering with normal breathing. He doesn't fit show conformation standards (even though the ABKC Gr Champed him out)

This is a DAX offspring. I'm sure you can all agree this dog is just poorly bred. There isn't much more I can say about this dog except for R.I.P. because I know he didn't live long. 

This is Miagi. Again, you can see this dog is just, I don't even know what to say. He's just terribly bred. 

This is a Miagi offspring. Again, you can see he is ugly as heck. With his shallow chest, wide set legs, and short muzzle, it would be impossible for this dog to do any kind of work. He also doesn't fit any of the breeds show standards. 

I was about to get into Bullseye and some of the others, but I just got enraged at how snarly and unhealthy looking these poor dogs are. So, we can just move on to well bred pockets since that is what started the whole "exotic movement".

His chest, shoulders, and front legs are identical to the illustrations labeled as being correct.

His rear is not high which is extremely common within all of the different American Bully classes.

Pocket American Bullies are bred for show standards rather than working. So there isn't much to compare on the working conformation versus show conformation when it comes to pockets. However, if I'm not mistaken, this pocket was trained for being an emotional support dog. Temperaments can also determine if a dog is well bred or not. American Bullies were bred to be companion dogs. So this dog has everything true to breed standards in my opinion.

In conclusion, just because a dog is not show quality doesn't mean it isn't working quality. Just because a dog is working quality doesn't mean it can't be show quality. Just because a dog is purebred doesn't mean it is show or working quality. If the breed of dog was only bred for appearance, it needs to fit those standards to be well bred. If the breed was bred for working purposes, as long as it can physically do the job, that's all that matters. If a breed of dog was bred for working purposes but later on became for show purposes, they should either fit show conformation or be able to work to be well bred. 

It seems like more than it really is. It really is pretty simple. Just because a dog isn't pretty doesn't mean it came from a crap breeding. 

What Kind of Pit Do I Have?

What kind of Pit do I have?

For starters, if you had a Pit Bull, you wouldn't even be asking that question. People who buy Pit Bulls from breeders KNOW they have a Pit Bull. They also know there is only one kind of Pit Bull. Do you ever see anybody asking what kind of Labrador Retriever they have?

What is the only kind of Pit Bull?

The American Pit Bull Terrier is the only kind of Pit Bull. DogBite.org, Animal Rights Activist, STUPID ASS PETA, Cesar Milan, Rescues, ASPCA etc. want you to believe there are different types of Pit Bulls because, THEY'RE UN-FREAKING-EDUCATED! 

People claim all of the time Pit Bulls are a group of breeds that include, but are not limited to, The American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bull Terrier, BLOCKY HEAD TERRIER, BIG BODIED TERRIER, FAT TERRIER, BLUE BULLDOG TERRIER, REDNOSE TERRIER, GATOR MOUTH TERRIER and so on. If you didn't catch my sarcasm in the last six breeds, I don't know what to tell you. Just cancel your internet subscription service! 

I don't know about you, but I happen to see only ONE breed with the words Pit and Bull in there. The AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER. Pit Bulls can either be classified as Bull breeds or Terriers. The Am Staff Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bull Terrier can also be classified as a Bull breed or a Terrier. Pit Bull is shorten for American Pit Bull Terrier. Just as the Am Staff is shortened for the American Staffordshire Terrier. Lab is shortened from the Labrador Retriever. 

What is a blanket term?

In this case, Pit Bull is a blanket term uneducated jerks use to describe any breed with a blocky head and muscular body. However, that isn't how blanket terms were intended to be used. Blanket terms are more or less categories. 

Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, Chesapeake Bay Retriever etc. have the blanket term, Retriever. 

American Pit Bull Terrier, Jack Russel Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier etc. have the blanket term, Terrier.

Belgian Shepherd, German Shepherd, King Shepherd etc. have the blanket term, Shepherd.

Do you see where I am going here? You don't call a Jack Russel Terrier a Pit Bull. You call it a Terrier. You don't call a Golden Retriever a Labrador. You call is a Retriever. So why are we okay with calling all Bull breeds Pit Bulls? Do you know what that does? That only helps to fluctuate already overly falsified statistics in a way we don't want them to go. By doing that, you are rounding the population to nearly 5 million Pit Bulls in the US. There are only between 70 and 80 million dogs in the US. An average breed of dog has around 200,000 to 800,000 in the US. 

Of course "Pit Bulls" have a higher bite rate. Looking at it that way, of course your chances of being mauled by one is higher than that of another breed. However, take that 5 million and subtract all of the dogs that AREN'T really Pit Bulls. You're left with probably well under 20,000 American Pit Bull Terriers. Yeah, yeah, it is just an estimated number. To be frank, I see around 1 thousand Bullies and Bull breed mixes to every 1 Pit Bull. Whether that number be on google, Facebook, Instagram, real life etc. 

Pit Bulls aren't a common breed. APBT breeders have ALWAYS been selective when it comes to breeding their dogs and with who will own their dogs. The Pit Bull is really a dying breed if you look at the numbers. 

If you're reading this blog, you have obviously read articles with headlines claiming "Family Pit Bull Kills 3 Second Old Baby". They typically show a picture of the 3 second old baby. Then, they have the picture of the dog in question. The dog in question typically looks like a shelter mutt or a damn Bulldog mix. I have YET to see a Pit Bull on the news for mauling anybody. Why is that? Owners of true American Pit Bull Terriers know how to handle their dogs. THAT'S WHY I HAVEN'T SEEN ANY PIT BULLS ON THE NEWS! Duh!

Why do breeders say they have Pit Bulls if they're really not?

Well, for starters, THEY'RE UN-FREAKING-EDUCATED. They are told they have a "full blooded" (Hence the quotations; all dogs are full blooded unless they're bleeding out really badly) blue nose, gator mouth Pit. They then turn around and breed their "full blooded, blue nose, gator mouth Pit" and tell YOU that is what they're called. You now breed your "full blooded, blue nose, gator mouth Pit" and tell your unsuspecting buyers the same. That's how misinformation gets carried along. 

You also have the jerks who know they don't have Pit Bulls but would rather make 5k (*caugh* DDK *ahem*) on a single puppy. So they tell you they have a rare XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXL Pit Bull. Well you don't want just ANY Pit Bull. Nooo, you want a RARE Pit Bull. So you have just now spent 5k on either a Bully or a mutt. 

In conclusion, your dog isn't a Pit Bull and you should just stop calling it one. You can't tell by looking at a dog what breed it is. You can't tell by spending time with a dog what breed it is. You can only tell the breed of dog by seeing the papers and having the bloodlines to back it up. I've said this before and I'll say it again, if have papers for your dog and they say Gotty/Gotti/Edge/Razor Edge/REMY, you do not own a Pit Bull, you own an American Bully. An American Bully is not a Pit Bull. It isn't a Bully Pit. It isn't a different class of Pit Bull. It is an American Bully.

Look at these bulky thangs

A lot of people have their lives turned upside down when they find out their beloved mutt isn't really a Pit Bull. To help them realize they wouldn't know what a Pit Bull was if it smacked them in the face, I often show MeMes and pictures to help them understand. Here are amazing examples of what adult and some young Pit Bulls look like. While you check out these amazing pictures, notice none of these dogs are blue in color. I have yet to find a blue American Pit Bull Terrier.

Not everyone will agree with me when I say these are some of the most beautiful dogs in the world. They aren't fat and lazy like the Bull breed mixes most claim to own. They are athletic and in better shape of more than 90% (average statistic) of the human population. They're amazing. By looking at the bodies of these dogs, you can understand why Pit Bulls are not meant for everyone. They need hours of agility, exercise, and training a day. A walk around the block will not even begin to satisfy their need for exercise. They are truly a one of a kind breed. 

This is the breed I fight for on a daily basis. This is the breed I live and breathe. This is the breed that so many people think they own but have no clue what it is like to own one. They are a workout indeed. They are extremely animal aggressive and there is no way you will ever be able to breed that out of them without adding in another breed. They don't get along with your cat and snuggle with your new 8 week old puppy on the couch. It just doesn't happen. Accept the breed as they are and help to separate them from false statistics.

Training Aggression Out of Dogs

Dont get too excited, you're not going to like the truth.

This is actually a "debate" that was on a Facebook group. There are breeds that are commonly bred for human aggression by dumb fucks. However, UKC, ADBA, CKC (Canadian Kennel Club), and AKC have human aggression listed as not being and acceptable trait in ANY breed they register. Human aggression is actually extremely common in all breeds. However, it isn't desirable and it should not be bred to continue the genetic trait.

A lot of people believe HA (human aggression) can be loved or trained out of a dog. It cannot be. You cannot love the green out of my eyes. You cannot love the brown out of my skin. However, you can give me brown contacts and bleach my skin. As we all know, that is just a temporary solution to a long-term, genetic problem. 

Have you ever heard somebody say, "Oh Jessica, you are just like your mom."? Have you ever heard your mom say, "I don't know if I should be happy or scared that you're so much like me."? If you can have the same personality as your mom, dad, sister, grandma, grandpa (WHATEVER), why can't dogs have the same personality as their mom, dad, sister, grandma, grandpa (WHATEVER)? Well, I hate to break it to you, but, THEY CAN and THEY DO!

If your mom is a sarcastic asshole and you are a sarcastic asshole, you can't change that. Yes, of course you can monitor it, but you will always have those thoughts. You have just learned to bite your tongue throughout the years. It is the same thing with dogs. If they are HA, you can monitor it, but you can never train it or love it out of them. 

Having a HA dog is a HUGE liability. It is a huge liability to yourself and others. You claim how sweet your dog is with you and your family, but laugh about how he will do anything possible to protect you from danger because he's  growled at or bit a stranger before. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU? THAT SHIT ISN'T FUNNY! THAT SHIT IS FUCKING SCARY! What will happen when you're walking down your dark hallway one night and your dog doesn't realize it's you? You will be either bit the fuck up, or dead. 

The debate in question that made me want to write this post was of an 11 week old puppy. An 11 week old puppy was already showing signs of human aggression to the guy's wife and young son. The puppy was already jumping up in their faces while he growled, snarled, and bit at them. Was the puppy properly socialized? Or is it a genetic trait? 

My suggestion is NEVER to immediately PTS (Put To Sleep). My suggestions were to contact the breeder and give the breeder the okay to give his contact information to the owners of the other puppies from that particular litter. By speaking with the other owners, it could give a lot of information as to it being something with that particular puppy, or the litter in general. Once you've weeded everything out, go from there.

If other puppies in the litter were already showing HA, I would immediately call it a loss and PTS. If more than one puppy is already showing signs of HA, it is obviously a genetic trait passed from one of the parents or their ancestors. Again, you cannot train genetics out of any living being. Now, if this is an isolated incident with only your puppy, you can continue your search with finding a professional trainer. 

If you are able to find a trainer, start with basic puppy manners and obedience. If this goes well, you will always need to monitor the puppy, even into adulthood. The moment your puppy, or dog, shows signs of aggression with either a family member or stranger, that is it. Dogs ALWAYS show signs before they "snap" (as some would call it). Any dog or puppy that shows signs of HA should immediately be put to sleep once basic training has been done. 

You may ask HOW I know this. Well, I've lived through it. I had a BBM (Bull Breed Mutt) who showed major signs of "fear aggression". I spent thousands of dollars on multiple trainers. I could always control the aggression by giving her a correction. What would have happened if I couldn't give her the correction soon enough? Eventually, she would have bitten. She would have been added to the "Pit Bull" statistics. I did everything in my power to try and "fix" her. I soon learned, no matter how hard I tried, I could never fix genetics. 

Some people say you can soft cull (Spay/Neuter) a HA dog. She was already spayed. The only thing I had left to depend on was training. However, training wasn't helping anything. I soon learned I would never have her aggression under control when she growled at me while I walked down the hallway one night. She was literally in attack mode.I quickly called out her name and she recognized it was me. What would have happened if I had the TV on and I couldn't hear her growl? I wouldn't have be able to alert her to the fact that is was me. That may have been the night she finally "turned" on her owner. 

After speaking with the previous owners about her, I learned this was something all of the dogs from her litter were like. They were all extremely shy and scared of strangers. They were fine, until they turned two. Two is the age where dogs become their true selves, if you will. So, my point being, if you already have an 11 week old puppy showing aggression towards humans (especially little kids), it has GOT to go. 

It is NOT all in how you train, raise, or love a dog. It is all in how you breed a dog. If a dog is bred poorly, it will show. If a dog is bred well, it will also show. 

My suggestion, stop buying dogs from back yard breeders.The first sign of a back yard breeder is a breeder who doesn't have registration papers and contracts.This will help tremendously with buying a dog that can potentially screw up the already overly falsified statistics. 

My second suggestion, if you're willing to buy a dog without papers, go to your local shelter and adopt an adult dog. Adult dogs are WAY more predictable than puppies. You already know the temperament of an adult dog. Again, it's genetics, not in how you raise them. You can buy a 500 dollar mutt from a BYB and give it all of the love, training, and attention every animal deserves and STILL have it grow up to be aggressive. If you adopt an adult, even though you don't know his background, you will already know what his personality is because he has already developed into the man that he was meant to be.
